Cat life stages by age

A cat is a senior from about age 11 (≈ 60 in human years) and geriatric from 15 — much later than most owners assume.

Junior
Full size is reached, but behaviour is adolescent.
7 months – 2 years
≈ 10–24 human years
Adult (prime)
Physically at their peak. Annual check-ups are enough.
3–6 years
≈ 28–40 human years
Mature
The feline equivalent of middle age — watch weight and teeth.
7–10 years
≈ 44–56 human years
Senior
Twice-yearly vet visits; kidney and thyroid screening starts here.
11–14 years
≈ 60–72 human years
Geriatric
Comfort, mobility and hydration become the whole game.
15+ years
≈ 76+ human years
